When it comes to smartphones, the news has been bad for Microsoft as well, with recent surveys showing waning interest in Windows Phone 7 from both consumers and developers.

SPICE Up Your Desktop

Red Hat's Future Linux Desktop

Remember Spice Girls ?

" When you're feelin' sad and low
We will take you where you gotta go
Smiling dancing everything is free
All you need is positivity

Colors of the world
Spice up your life
Every boy and every girl
Spice up your life
People of the world
Spice up your life "

We all heard about the Internet CLOUD ;
What about the DESKTOP Cloud ?
SPICE Up Your DESKTOP !

SPICE Client - Windows 7
http://www.redhat.com/v/swf/rhev/spice.html

With SPICE will be a lot easier to switch to Desktop Linux.
I.T. Departments who must forget about old (FoxPro!) desktop applications  , can switch to SPICE .
The user will not comment because his computer will continue to run Windows.
In the second step - when all enterprise apps runs on the - Virtual "CLOUD" Desktop  - the user's computer will BOOT the Fedora (or Ubuntu?) Desktop and the user cannot complain because he is already familiar with the new business software.

One might say that users can and will complain!  Its what they do best. They will complain about anything that is different than what they did yesterday.

IF - the management approves and enforces the new ERP via SPICE , in a Small Business, a complaining user has only one alternative : to resign
In this way, Internet Explorer and Microsoft Office can disapper in a few years ...

Another subtile way of introducing SPICE is with a WEBMAIL server. If an user wants Mozilla Seamonkey or Thunderbird, they cannot have it on their desktop, but instead on the SPICE client ...

In the long term , Linux can BOOT many desktop clients on the business networks.
I think it's a very good plan and I wish that Red Hat will double the income and the market capitalization.

What will be nice to have on a Desktop-Style Cloud-Client ?
If I log off from the SPICE Server and leave a lot of Apps open, and shutdown the windows-client computer at Work , when at home-linux computer , logging at work on the SPICE Server, to be able to access the desktop with the opened Apps and continue work from home ...

... something similar with the principle of SCREEN text-mode linux command , but in graphics-mode

Why not an Android device as the Desktop-Based--Cloud-Terminal
to the Spice-Service on a RHEL Server ?

WP7 - WTF

WP7 : Still no update

WP7 is not Android : there are people still waiting on froyo !
... and Honeycomb isn’t even in 1% of devices ...
But on Android one can root the phone and get the latest and greatest version of Android .

When Microsoft dropped Windows Mobile they dropped the ball
with POST-PC ERA !

One might ask himself :
<<
If PC ERA is over,  how will the enterprise and businesses do their work?
Only by tablets and smartphones?

>>
 - Well it's a way of speaking , as the time goes by ,  people will be more
and more comfortable with the tablet and smartphone software ;
HP is the first one that will have the same software (WebOS) in smartphones, tablets,
laptops, desktops and even printers !

In the "Classified - For official use only" secrecy level - only Android
seems to be a contender :

Merkel-Phone: Bekommt die Kanzlerin ein Android-Handy?

Merkel-phone: the Chancellor gets an Android phone?

Has Microsoft dropped the ball with Windows Phone 7?
The Post-PC Era Is Already Here

La fragmentation Android n’inquiète pas Motorola
Windows Phone 7 semble décoller en Europe

Microsoft is bricking their customer's WP7 phones ; Businesses can't afford the amateurish, careless, and unremediable bricking of their phones. Any business that buys Windows Phone 7 is committing suicide. Microsoft and Windows Phone 7 should not be associated with the enterprise in any way at all.

Android Laptops and Desktops

At CeBIT 2011 ASUS Eee Pad Transformer tablet seems to bring another concept : Laptops with Android.
If HP has raised the bar with WebOS on laptops and desktops, I wonder when will apear the first desktop with android ...

Android attacks Windows in the netbook market and may win

"Remember the netbook market? It's still alive, and Microsoft dominates it. But that bastion of Windows is about to come under attack from Android, as Asus says it will be using Android for netbooks."

Android on top in the US, Microsoft in decline

The latest US smartphones figures from comScore :

Google’s Android remains on top of the smartphone pack . This gives Android a solid 32.2 percent of the US market.
RIM rings in at second place with 30.4 percent of the market.
Apple’s share of the market (24.7 percent) remained largely unchanged for third place.

So, it's quite clear that Android will be the winner in the new ERA
after the cold war between MAC and PC ...
